This course is designed to empower outpatient therapists to better service the adolescent population involved with suicidal thoughts and self-injury. The goals of the course will be for clinicians to learn the Stabilization of Adolescent Suicidality and Self-Harm Model. Learning Objectives
- Define a child with a serious emotional disturbance (SED).
- Define an individual with a serious mental illness (SMI).
- Determine the key (3) differences between SED and SMI.
- List five common treatment errors in addressing suicidal or self-harming youth in outpatient therapy.
- List available the five levels of care and define their use in overall treatment.
- Define "imminent risk" regarding mental health, and it's relation to involuntary commitment
- Define the role of the caregiver in treatment.
- Define the role of the youth in treatment.
- Identify and explain the use of the nine S.A.S.S documents

Learning Levels
- This training is open to all independently licensed clinicians, registered interns, or students working with the adolescent population. Clinicians that have graduated from accredited programs should have at least one year of experience working with the adolescent population in any setting.
